We are a group of ladies who meet in the small village of Bicton, just outside Shrewsbury in Shropshire. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in Bicton Village Hall. (See our 'Contact' page for directions to Bicton Village Hall.)
Bicton & Oxon WI was founded in December, 1924 and we are looking forward to our centenary celebrations this year. Each month, starting on 1st January with the 1920s, we will publish an article from our archives, which you can read in our Centenary Blog.
We have over 40 members and always welcome visitors and more members. We enjoy a variety of events and speakers throughout the year, accompanied by plenty of chat and refreshments! You are welcome to attend two of our meetings without commitment to join. The cost for visitors is £4 which includes refreshments. Our raffle is 50p per ticket.
We have a monthly trading stall and this year the proceeds will go into a jar for Severn Hospice. Our December competition for many years has been a wrapped gift suitable as a Christmas present for beneficiaries of a local charity.
As well as our monthly meetings we have a walk each month of varying length and terrain, and we meet up informally for coffee and chat - usually at Refresh, the Hospice cafe.
2020 and 2021 were unusual years...but we discovered Zoom! We had meetings by Zoom with a speaker every month from May 2020 to June 2021 – from a historical talk to a cook-along to a cartoon workshop. We had outdoor get-togethers within the rules and we weren’t to be denied our August outings – there was a canal boat journey from Llangollen in 2020, and a visit to Isle Estate in 2021! Our Christmas event was a quiz using Zoom breakout rooms. All in all successful years, though very different to usual. Have a look at our 2021 year in pictures and also pictures of 2022 events.
If you would like to join or visit us, please let us know via our contact form; we'd love to see you!
This website is designed to be fully accessible to all visitors. If you find a problem with accessibility, please send a message for the attention of Gillian, giving as much detail as possible, via our contact page. Thank you.

This talk explains the work of the Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes and the life-saving service provided in our county.
